Rick's post-
Due to the difficulty in communication, I am limited to the most updated information as things happen day by day. Removal of the last remaining chest tube has been challenging. The upper right lobe continues to be a little deflated even after all of the hard work I've been doing. I will continue with this. I've had the tube removed a few cms twice, but suction remains on as I sit in my hospital room writing this on paper for Julie to copy later, for Polly to copy to the blog. Sleeping is difficult because of the chest tube and pivot points of the ribs that were spread during surgery. Fortunately, yesterday and today I was able to walk outside with my friend the pole/suction machine. :( The temperature was around 70 degrees, sunny. One of my most difficult tasks so far is learning to be a patient patient. Did I mention I can't wait to get the chest tube out and get rid of this pole? After this I can then start planning my return home, to my wonderful life that I have been plucked out of. This is a very nice place, people are wonderful, and my care is fantastic, but it's not home and very foreign. We are here with other families from the United States having the same procedure, so that has been helpful in passing the time for all of us.
From Julie- I am returning tomorrow, Monday. Wish Rick was coming too or at least that the chest tube was out so that we could start planning for his return. Guess it was not to be. Had a lovely tour of Dresden today with a family here who we've met through a mutual friend back home. Such good people! Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes for Rick and our family. We feel the support and so appreciate it. Please continue to pray for Rick's recovery and health and if I can ask, my safe travels as I am coming alone and feel a bit apprehensive.

Sorry for this second tube staying in - what a drag!! This sort of happened Karina's second time - and then when it was time to come out, it was the weekend and I think the covering doctors didn't want to take it out until Rolle saw her on Monday. Hope it will be Monday. Sounds like your rehab otherwise has been terrific. The weather looks lovely there.
ReplyDeleteI think it is common to have a little air space left (Karina had too) - it eventually gets resorbed - the lungs are just a little stiff...
Yes yes yes we will pray for your safe travel and know that this is what God wants for you. All will happen as he plans and we just need to renew our faith in his ultimate love each and ever day. I bet Madeline will greet with you hugs and kisses. Rick the Brewers lost today but had a great road trip. I think it is because of you.
