BETTER BY THE HOUR

As suspected, Rick is doing better by the hour. His first respiratory therapy session this morning, he passed with flying colors. This also includes physical therapy and it wasn't passive range of motion. He worked it. :) He is doing his "breathing trainer" which is incentive spirometry for us well. This morning, up to 2500. He also a terrific nebulizer session too.

The most interesting and WOW experience as of 1000 this morning was the rounding of 10 people including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses. They all said that he was doing very well and remarked to one another that he was making great progress. They were amazed at his range of motion and his spirometer. Rick will stand today for the first time, no doubt he will manage fantastically. Tomorrow, they will pull one chest tube.

Last but not least, especially for the men.....the foley was removed today!!! He REALLY did not like having that. His arterial or peripheral line may also come out.

Rick is getting a room- mate now because the ICU is so full. I will try to post his beautiful photos later today. You'll be amazed.

Love, Polly

  2. How wonderful to read this blog about your experiences in Germany with the people you are meeting and the results etc but mostly about how Rick is doing. We are all praying hard for you Rick and adding the doctors, and your family to the list as well. I called a retired pastor in Alabama yesterday and he will be lifting you up in his prayers too. 3. We continue to marvel at Rick's ability to keep his determination and stamina during this challenging time. We all continue to pray for all tubes out soon and painless time. Way to go Bush, you can so do this! (Now the flash card for "urinate" might come in handy after Foley removal?)
